Zentraveler on the benefits of Yoga!

The word yoga comes from a Sanskrit word Yuj, it means to center one’s thought, to concentrate on one’s self, to meditate. It also means to “unite”, “join” and “connect”; a bringing back into balance. Yoga harmonizes the body, mind and spirit.

After their first yoga class, people often testify that they have improved their sleeping habits and posture. Yoga has helped people lose weight, overcome fears, conquer habits like smoking, and develop better concentration. Others feel they have improved self-awareness, a deeper sense of well-being, developed compassion, and enhanced relationships, greater self-acceptance and a sensation of being at peace.

What is Yoga? ~ Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, Alistair Shearer

Yoga is a way to restore our lost wholeness, our integrity as complete human beings, by unifying the personality around a center that is silent, unbounded, spacious, and joyful. The techniques of yoga are methods of purifying the nervous system so that it can reflect a greater degree of consciousness and our lives can become an increasingly positive force in the world.

If these techniques are correctly practiced, the whole nervous system is revitalized – the body enjoys better health and more energy, the rested mind is freed from the burden of past experience, and perception is restored to its primal freshness. Thought and activity become coherent and integrated, life becomes richer and more fulfilling.

Yoga is not a religion. Its techniques, however, will gradually lead you to the direct experience of those truths on which religion rests. Yoga is a catalyst that allows us to grow in whichever direction is natural and life supporting.

At the very center of our being is a great spaciousness that is untouched by sin and illusion. A point of pure truth which is inaccessible to the fantasies of our mind or the brutalities of our will. It’s like a pure diamond – blazing with the invisible light of heaven. It’s in everybody. And if we could only see it and integrate it – we would radiate a peace that would make all the darkness and all the cruelty vanish forever.

QUOTE: “Yoga, an ancient but perfect science, deals with the evolution of humanity. This evolution includes all aspects of one’s being, from bodily health to self-realization. Yoga means union – the union of body with consciousness and consciousness with the soul. Yoga cultivates the ways of maintaining a balanced attitude in day to day life and endows skill in the performance of one’s actions.” —B.K.S. Iyengar

Zentraveler on Traditional Chinese concept of preserving health!

White Lotus Life’s Journey

As we get a bit longer in the tooth we begin to search for the fountain of youth and spend billions of dollars on beauty creams, fast plastic surgery fixes, and all of the latest raves… from seaweed mud baths to soaking yourself in black petroleum oil. As smart as we think we are with all of our modern technology, sometimes it pays to look at the masters who knew how to preserve life simply by following a few ancient Chinese principles like Qigong.

Qigong is a powerful system of healing and energy medicine from China. It is the art and science of using breathing techniques, gentle movement, and meditation to cleanse, strengthen, and circulate the life energy (qi). Qigong practice leads to better health and vitality and a tranquil state of mind.

Health preserving is a concept in Chinese traditional medicine to enhance physical fitness, prevent diseases, postpone aging and prolong the life by spiritual toning, therapeutic diets and medicated diet, healthy exercises and other methods. Such concept takes the natural point of view in ancient China as the theoretical basis, such as Five Elements Theory and Yin-yang Theory.

The ancients believe that all things in the world are generated from the five substances: metal, wood, water, fire and earth. This Five Element Theory also can be applied to explain the uniformity of mutual connection between human viscera and tissues as well as between human body and the external environment.

The ancients also believe that, all things in the world can be divided by Yin and Yang. If apply to medicine, this Yin-yang Theory will define such substances and functions that driving, warming and exciting the human body as Yang, while such substances and functions that condensing, moisturizing and inhibiting the human body as Yin. Yin and Yang rise and fall by restricting each other to achieve dynamic balance. If this balance is damaged, disease will produce.
The ancients also believe that the Qi is the source of changes of Yin and Yang and the Five Elements; they believe that man and nature communicate and correspond to each other. The theory of Pneuma and Man-Heaven Correspondence has been also applied to the understanding of human life activities, as well as the explanation for the mutual restraint and effect of man and nature.

The concept of health preserving is the product of such natural views. It is in light of this concept that people established the rich and effective methods of health preserving, such as spiritual toning, guiding and breathing, health care in four seasons, food and medicine diets for health preserving , thus forming a miracle of the traditional Chinese medicine – Health Preserving Theory. So there you have it. If you want a long prosperous life take everything in moderation, keep active, walk, walk, walk, eat small meals, drink lots of water, surround yourself with positive people, do the things that you actually like doing and make a contribution to society. Easy for you to say grasshopper, but a bit harder to do in actual practice. On a recent survey of longevity… The things that stand out is a positive attitude and Optimistic Personalities plus healthy lifestyle – especially diet.

“I think that the most common theme is that people are upbeat, have a good sense of humor and just see the positive in life.” Most resist visiting doctors and taking their advice, Sarah Topol said. Many take supplements and will change their diets instead of taking prescription medicines, such as a 103-year-old woman in Riverside, California, who swears by a mushroom compound and an extract from lion’s mane.

QUOTE:There is very old saying in Indian philosophy that ” Where there is problem, solution lies there itself”

THINGS YOU MAY NOT KNOW: Who can benefit by practicing Qigong? Because qigong includes both dynamic and gentle techniques that can be practiced from standing, seated, or supine postures, it is suitable for young and old. Practices can be tailored to individual needs making it an ideal aid to recovery from illness or injury. Qigong is a form of complementary medicine. It works well with other forms of therapy and should never be used as a substitute for necessary treatment by a physician.

Zentraveler on the Awakening Process!

Pied Piper Lemmings

Lemmings flocked to the seas following the hypnotic melodies of the Pied Piper. Are we actually progressing toward a better world or our we all tied up in electronic gadgets that someone from Madison Avenue said we must have.

Recently I have witnessed the new traveler all settled in on the bus, plane, or train with headphones on cell phones engaged and eyes glued to a touch-screen or Facebook… and if a dinosaur was running full-speed faster than the train right outside of your window seat… You would not even see it because you are too self-absorbed in the electronic stimulants that keep you motivated to see even more of the same.

Wake up World starts with one person who wants to change their consciousness and go onto higher and better things.

An excerpt from the book: “A New Earth” by Eckhart Tolle featured on Oprah.com

This book’s main purpose is not to add new information or beliefs to your mind or to try to convince you of anything, but to bring about a shift in consciousness, that is to say, to awaken. In that sense, this book is not “interesting.” Interesting means you can keep your distance, play around with ideas and concepts in your mind, agree or disagree. This book is about YOU. It will change your state of consciousness or it will be meaningless. It can only awaken those who are ready. Not everyone is ready yet, but many are, and with each person who awakens, the momentum in the collective consciousness grows, and it becomes easier for others. If you don’t know what awakening means, read on.

Only by awakening can you know the true meaning of that word. A glimpse is enough to initiate the awakening process, which is irreversible. For some, that glimpse will come while reading this book. For many others who may not even have realized it, the process has already begun. This book will help them recognize it. For some, it may have begun through loss or suffering; for others, through coming into contact with a spiritual teacher or teaching, through reading The Power of Now or some other spiritually alive and therefore transformational book—or any combination of the above. If the awakening process has begun in you, the reading of this book will accelerate and intensify it.

An essential part of the awakening is the recognition of the unawakened you, the ego as it thinks, speaks, and acts, as well as the recognition of the collectively conditioned mental processes that perpetuate the unawakened state. That is why this book shows the main aspects of the ego and how they operate in the individual as well as in the collective. This is important for two related reasons: The first is that unless you know the basic mechanics behind the workings of the ego, you won’t recognize it, and it will trick you into identifying with it again and again. This means it takes you over, an imposter pretending to be you. The second reason is that the act of recognition itself is one of the ways in which awakening happens. When you recognize the unconsciousness in you, that which makes the recognition possible is the arising consciousness, is awakening. You cannot fight against the ego and win, just as you cannot fight against darkness. The light of consciousness is all that is necessary. You are that light.

So there you have it do you want to remain an ego-driven drone of society hypnotized, electronically drugged into oblivion or would you like to be totally alive and vibrant awakening to the real. It’s totally up to you.

QUOTE: “Meditation is nothing but putting the mind aside, putting the mind out-of-the-way, and bringing a witnessing which is always there but hidden underneath the mind. This witnessing will reach to your center, and once you have become awakened, enlightened, then there is no problem. Then bring the mind in tune with you.”

THINGS YOU MAY NOT KNOW:The four facts of awakening: 1. We are all selfish and we all want the same thing driven by our egos. 2. Everyone is in the same boat…we are all the same. 3. Since we all the same we are one with the universe. 4. The answer to awakening is a universal oneness and the realization of love as the light within us that everyone possesses. Simply turn the light on and you are awakened

THINGS YOU MAY WANT TO SAVE: Anger, resentment, jealousy, payback time. If you see these things in your enemies then they are also in you. Solution! Have no enemies…anger, resentment, jealousy, or payback time and convert these destructive energies into universal love.

ZENTRAVELER SAYS: The answer my friend… is the light from within which is pure universal love.
